Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride Injection Dosage and Administration

Adult Dosage: Prepare a solution to a concentration of 4 μg/ml and administer slowly intravenously at a dose of 1 μg/kg over an infusion period exceeding 10 minutes.

This product must be diluted with 0.9% sodium chloride solution to a concentration of 4 μg/ml before administration. Take 2 ml of this product and add it to 48 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride injection to form a total solution of 50 ml. Gently shake to mix thoroughly. Strict aseptic technique must be maintained throughout the procedure.

Generally, the drug should be visually inspected for particulate matter and color changes before intravenous administration.

Dosage Adjustment: Due to possible pharmacodynamic interactions, a dose reduction may be necessary when this product is administered concomitantly with other anesthetics, sedatives, hypnotics, or opioids (see Drug Interactions).

A dose reduction may be considered for patients with hepatic or renal impairment and elderly patients.

Drug Compatibility: Because physical compatibility is not yet known, this product should not be administered concomitantly with blood or plasma through the same intravenous catheter. This product is incompatible with the following medications when administered concurrently: amphotericin B and diazepam.

This product is compatible with the following intravenous fluids and medications when administered concurrently: 0.9% sodium chloride solution and 5% glucose solution.

Some types of natural rubber have been shown to absorb this product; the use of synthetic or coated rubber pad delivery devices is recommended.
